The Human Resources Benefits Coordinator provides administrative support for all employee benefits processes at the college. Assists employees in navigating benefit options and ensures compliance with applicable state and federal regulations. The Benefits Coordinator also supports employment processes, including onboarding and offboarding, and manages confidential employment records and information within various college systems.
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Human Resources, Business, or Public Administration; or five years of work experience in Human Resources or Benefits Administration.
- Excellent computer and data entry skills, proficiency in MS office, a high degree of confidentiality, and experience with HRIS required.
- Familiarity with the North Carolina State Health Plan Benefits Options, The Teachers,’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS) Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System (LGERS), and Social Security.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of applicable state and federal employment laws. Knowledge of typical office procedures. Knowledge of data/records management practices. Excellent communication and organizational skills, both verbal and written. Proactive customer service orientation. Ability to work independently, within a team, and with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office Suite and Datatel Colleague. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments in a fast paced environment. Ability to handle confidential information with absolute discretion.

Analyzes benefits data, changes in plans including ACA requirements.

Acts as the college’s HBR/Health Benefits Representative, attends learning sessions provided by the State Health Plan.
Duty and Responsibility:
Maintains employee confidence by keeping benefit information confidential.
Duty and Responsibility:
Coordinates and tracks Annual Enrollment and coordinates Annual Benefits Fair for the college.
Duty and Responsibility:
Explains employee benefits by conducting meetings; preparing written explanations/correspondence; responding to requests and providing training.
Duty and Responsibility:
Actively participates in the Wellness Committee and regularly shares insights and updates on wellness initiatives from the North Carolina State Health Plan.
Duty and Responsibility:
Prepares and delivers quarterly and annual Executive Summaries to the Chief Human Resources Officer, highlighting key employee events such as retirements, benefits enrollment periods, and updates to optional benefits.
Duty and Responsibility:
Assist with Workers Compensation process: collecting required paperwork, filing claims, communicating with employees’ care providers and the insurance carrier; and assist with the resolution of issues and claims settlements.

Assists with special projects as requested including but not limited to the audit of personnel records, benefits, statements, and retirement statements.

Serves as a backup for leave administration including but not limited to FMLA/Short- and long-term Disability.

Ensures benefit coverage is accurately reflected on the 1095c for ACA reporting and analyzes benefits data, changes in plans including ACA requirements.

Develop and implement strategies to improve employee satisfaction with optional benefit plans and cost-effectiveness of benefit programs.
