Position Summary:

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking a Data & Reporting Specialist to join the college’s growing Institutional Effectiveness & Research team.

Under supervision of the Director of Institutional Effectiveness, this position will have a primary focus on maintaining the college’s data and reporting infrastructure along with general duties of the Institutional Effectiveness department. Responsibilities include serving as the primary contact for data and report requests for all of the college’s functional areas, maintaining the college’s inventory of reports and data sources, and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and availability of institutional data. In addition, this position will work collaboratively with faculty and staff to support the informed and responsible use of institutional data in decision making and contribute to projects that inform strategic planning, accreditation, and continuous improvement, consistent with the department’s mission of providing professional, high-quality, accurate, timely, and accessible data, reporting, analysis, and compliance services in the service of the college.

This position is ideal for individuals with demonstrated experience in data analysis, information systems, or statistical reporting techniques, particularly the use of electronic data systems for organizational reporting. Successful candidates will be self-motivated, detail oriented, and have the ability to creatively solve problems while working within established guidelines and processes. Higher education experience in any role, including faculty or student support, is preferred, but candidates from all backgrounds with experience in data analysis, business reporting, or social science research methods are encouraged to apply.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Associate’s degree with four years’ working experience, or
  • Bachelor’s degree with two years’ working experience, or
  • Studies towards a Master’s degree in a related discipline, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word and PowerPoint, and other common office software and systems.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the knowledge of pivot tables and formulas to ensure the accuracy and consistency of reported data, or the ability to learn these functions quickly upon selection.
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn higher education-specific database and reporting software, such as Datatel Colleague and Entrinsik Informer.
  • Ability to work independently and use professional judgement in completing tasks and projects.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive or potentially personally identifiable information.
  • Ability to read, understand, and effectively implement written policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail in the completion of assigned duties.
  • Possess a positive, professional, and customer-focused outlook in solving problems and working with internal and external colleagues.

Institutional Research - Effectiveness

Work Hours:

  • Generally equivalent to an 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week schedule.
  • This position will be based at RCCC’s North Campus in Salisbury, North Carolina, and attendance on-campus is required.
  • Hybrid or remote work options are available contingent upon institutional policies and satisfactory performance. Full-time on-campus work may be required during designated reporting periods.

Duty and Responsibility:

Serve as the primary contact for data and report requests for all college personnel and functional areas, including Student Services, Academic Programs, Human Resources, and Business and Financial Services, ensuring all data or report requests are responded to promptly and fulfilled in a timely manner.

Duty and Responsibility:

Regularly merge, manipulate, analyze and report on large amounts of complex data from various sources using advanced data analysis or statistical techniques to provide accurate, accessible, and actionable data to present stakeholders with a consistent, useful, and accurate view of institutional data.

Duty and Responsibility:

Maintain the library of reports in the college’s reporting systems, including creating, updating, and troubleshooting reports as needed; assist users with report creation, including custom formulas and coding; assist with training users on the college’s reporting systems.

Duty and Responsibility:

Provide advanced reporting and technical support to IE staff and other employees to meet the college’s data and reporting needs.

Work collaboratively with college personnel to validate and promote the proper use and application of institutional information.

Assist with the creation, maintenance, and distribution of the college’s Power BI dashboards and other departmental data sources.

Routinely review data entered into the College’s database of record to ensure accuracy and consistent data entry; maintain archive of reports submitted as part of the NCCCS Annual Reporting Plan.

Duty and Responsibility:

Prepare, upload, and ensure the accuracy and validity of files submitted to external organizations, including the National Student Clearinghouse, NCCCS, and other third-party vendors.

Duty and Responsibility:

Contributes to projects related to ensuring the accuracy, availability, and effective use of data and evidence related to institutional outcomes, including post-graduation employment and transfer, financial value, workforce needs, and continuous improvement throughout the college.

Create and maintain documentation, metadata, and written procedures for routine tasks, reports, and activities.
