Essential Job Duties
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for hospitalized small animals, including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, medication administration, and wound management.
- Monitor and care for post-anesthetic and post-surgical patients, ensuring safe recovery and appropriate pain management.
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as IV fluid pumps, syringe pumps, and monitoring devices.
- Admit patients and communicate care plans with clinicians, students, and clients; accurately document treatments and diagnostics in the hospital system.
- Support hospital operations by maintaining a clean and safe work environment, following infection control, OSHA, and radiation safety policies.
- Assist in training, orienting, and mentoring new staff, students, interns, and residents in hospital procedures and standards of care.

Other Responsibilities

- Participate in continuing education and safety training courses as required.
- May be required to work beyond scheduled hours, including weekends or holidays, to meet patient care needs.
Minimum Experience/Education

Other Required Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing nursing care to canine and feline patients in a veterinary hospital, preferably within a teaching or specialty care environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with patient monitoring and medical equipment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-based clinical setting.
- Strong communication, professionalism, and problem-solving skills with a commitment to supporting a teaching environment.
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
Required License or Certification
Valid NC Driver's License required
