Essential Job Duties

NC State University is looking for a Lead Pest Control Technician to join our Environmental Services team. In this hands-on role, you’ll be more than just a technician—you’ll be a guardian of our campus, keeping classrooms, offices, labs, and outdoor spaces free from pests and wildlife that can impact health, safety, and infrastructure.

Whether you’re addressing termite trouble, safely removing a raccoon, or implementing preventive solutions for ants and roaches, you’ll be making a real difference every day for our students, faculty, and staff.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Use proven pest control methods to manage everything from insects to wildlife across campus buildings and green spaces
  • Conduct detailed inspections, document findings, and recommend effective solutions
  • Coordinate with safety committees, clients, and other departments to ensure full coverage and compliance
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest eco-friendly and effective pest control practices through training and certifications
  • Operate service trucks with power spraying equipment, and apply treatments with precision and care
  • Follow all safety and environmental regulations, ensuring EPA compliance and responsible pesticide use
  • Analyze pest trends and feedback to improve service and prevent future issues
  • Share your knowledge with clients and teams, recommending preventive measures and answering questions confidently
  • Safely remove or manage wildlife such as snakes, raccoons, squirrels, and deer as needed

Other Responsibilities

  • This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Participate in on-call duties for emergency service requests

Minimum Experience/Education

High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of pesticides and other pest control options
  • The ability to assess the safety concerns of each product and the radius of use
  • The ability to explain their pest control process, identify timelines, and address occupants’ concerns
  • Experience in pest control in a university or commercial setting
  • Knowledge of wildlife response protocol and certification

Required License or Certification

  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
  • Ability to keep current on all pest control required certification(s)
