Essential Job Duties

Are you a skilled carpenter who takes pride in precision, craftsmanship, and problem-solving? We’re seeking a Carpenter to join our Carpentry Shop and contribute to a wide range of renovation and installation projects across campus facilities. From drywall and cabinetry to flooring and ceiling systems, you’ll play a key role in enhancing and maintaining our built environment. If you’re detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and ready to bring your expertise to a collaborative team, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and finish drywall, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, and countertops with attention to detail and quality.
  • Perform trim work, hang doors, install hardware, and set windows to meet project specifications.
  • Modify and renovate spaces by removing walls, installing partitions, and reconfiguring layouts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to ensure accurate execution of construction plans.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools to complete structural enhancements and repairs.
  • Collaborate with project managers to resolve construction challenges and ensure timely completion.
  • Apply knowledge of at least one additional trade while maintaining a general understanding of others.
  • Work involves lifting and carrying up to 60 lbs frequently and up to 90 lbs occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in renovating building spaces in a university or institutional setting.
  • Proficiency in installing and finishing drywall, ceiling systems, flooring, cabinetry, and countertops.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry trade practices, materials, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in a facilities environment.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with supervisors, team members, and the public.

Required License or Certification

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire and it must be maintained.
