Essential Job Duties
- Coordinate litigation activities with outside counsel and assist with responses to administrative complaints and tort claims.
- Draft, proofread, and finalize legal documents, correspondence, and reports with exceptional attention to detail.
- Conduct legal and factual research, compile data, and manage large-scale document production and redaction.
- Track and report on open and closed cases, bankruptcy actions, and other legal proceedings.
- Support transactions and public records responses, including coordination with state and local officials.
- Prepare educational and outreach materials such as presentations, newsletters, and training resources for university seminars.
- Manage special projects and other assignments that support the Office of General Counsel’s mission.
Other Responsibilities
- Craft and polish a variety of legal documents, correspondence, and reports—ensuring every detail is accurate and professional.
- Dive into large-scale document projects by organizing, analyzing, and preparing key materials like correspondence, policies, and exhibits.
- Play a hands-on role supporting important university committees, including the Compliance Steering Committee, Compliance Officials Working Group, and Professional Sports Counseling Panel—helping keep things on track and well-coordinated.
- Pitch in wherever needed—ready to take on new challenges and assist with evolving priorities as they arise.
Minimum Experience/Education
Completion of an accredited paralegal program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Comfortable navigating legal tech tools like Relativity, Clio, and the Wake County Electronic Filing System—you know how to keep documents organized and accessible.
- Confident using PACER and well-versed in Bankruptcy procedures (Chapters 7, 11, and 13)—you’re no stranger to complex case files.
- Bring solid experience with workers’ compensation and tort claims, and know how to support these cases with accuracy and care.
- Have a strong grasp of the Rules of Court, from federal to local levels—including Civil Procedure, the NC General Statutes, and Administrative Code—and know how to apply them in real-world situations.
- Bonus points if you’re a Notary Public—or ready to become one—to help move things forward efficiently and professionally.
Required License or Certification
- Paralegal certification from the North Carolina State Bar or NALA; or equivalent license or degree.
