Essential Job Duties

NC State University is on the hunt for a passionate and hardworking Landscape Maintenance Technician to help care for one of the most vibrant and scenic campuses in the country.

Join our Landscape Maintenance and Operations team and help create a welcoming, safe, and sustainable outdoor environment for the campus community. If you enjoy working outside, take pride in your work, and like seeing tangible results, this role is for you. Strong communication with your team and the public, the ability to follow instructions, basic computer skills, and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds regularly (and up to 90 pounds occasionally), with or without reasonable accommodations will help you succeed.

Every day brings new opportunities — from planting colorful seasonal displays to maintaining our lush lawns and tree-lined walkways. Your work will help shape the look and feel of the NC State experience, and we guarantee: you’ll never be stuck behind a desk!

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Keeping campus grounds beautiful through mowing, edging, trimming, blowing, and seasonal leaf removal
  • Installing and maintaining trees, shrubs, flowers, bulbs, sod, and other landscape elements
  • Applying fertilizers and pest control treatments safely and effectively
  • Pruning plants for health, aesthetics, and seasonal blooms
  • Monitoring the health of turf and plant materials — spotting pests, diseases, and signs of stress
  • Operating and maintaining landscape equipment like mowers, blowers, trimmers, and more
  • Assisting with turf care, including soil testing, seeding, fertilizing, and irrigation
  • Supporting the irrigation team with system monitoring and repairs
  • Keeping worksites, vehicles, and tools clean and organized
  • Responding to on-site needs and communicating with Field Leads and Zone Managers
  • Logging your work and daily activities accurately

If you’re someone who enjoys working with your hands, thrives outdoors in all seasons, and wants to be part of something bigger than yourself — come help keep NC State thriving and beautiful every single day.
