Essential Job Duties

In this essential role, you’ll help create a positive experience for students, staff, and visitors by ensuring our facilities are clean, hygienic, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and sanitize assigned areas using standard procedures to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Operate housekeeping equipment such as vacuums, mops, and scrubbers for tasks including dusting, disinfecting, and restocking supplies.
  • Perform periodic deep cleaning tasks such as floor refinishing, carpet extraction, and pressure washing of entrances and windows.
  • Remove and manage recycling from centralized indoor recycling sites.
  • Assist with seasonal cleaning tasks and snow/ice removal during inclement weather.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 30 lbs and occasionally up to 60 lbs (with or without reasonable accommodation).

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform snow and ice removal within a team environment during inclement weather, in addition to coordinating with coworkers during group response to emergencies
  • Perform team cleaning tasks and projects during breaks, and when space is accessible
  • May be required to fill in for absenteeism outside of assigned area

Minimum Experience/Education

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing housekeeping duties in a university or commercial environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and the public.
  • Familiarity with operating cleaning equipment and performing physical tasks such as grasping, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, squatting, and climbing.
  • Demonstrated reliability in responding to emergencies and working in team-based environments.
  • Flexibility to support team cleaning projects and fill in for absenteeism when needed.

Required License or Certification

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be able to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire and it must be maintained
